Students at top of the class

As the sun shone on Fairfield Park, the Students were out to get their season off on the right foot. Though points had been claimed through forfeit in Round 1, Sunday offered the chance for Cath Grant’s team to get on the park for the first time in season 2022/23.

Bowling first against Essendon, Uni took no time at all to get into their work; Dakota Edmonds and Odette Lopez making light work of the top order. Once Uni had the early ascendenacy, they refused to give it up, as Cath Grant and Dani Norman both got amongst the wickets as well.

Though Essendon’s skipper made a resolute 49*, she was the only player who managed double figures, as the Students restricted the Bombers to 7/84 from their 20 overs.

Keen to knock over the small total, Odette Lopez picked up where she left off with the ball, blasting 38 to knock a hefty chunk out of the chase. Joined by Bri Herman (31*) at the top of the list, Uni made light work of the chase, losing just one wicket to finish 1/86 in just 13 overs.

A comprehensive display, it sees Uni in second place after two rounds – a position they will be keen to hold on to in the coming weeks!
