MUCC Match Reports – Round 9
First XI: MUCC 5/142cc (Hutton 65 Rogers 50) defeated Green Kang 9/119cc (Bett 3/20)
On a picture perfect Uni Main oval the 1st XI had their best opening partnership for the year of 98 after being sent in. Rogers (50) hit 4 early boundaries with delightful stroke play, while Hutton (65) accelerated nicely clearing the fence twice before being caught on the boundary with a stunning diving catch in the outfield. Greenvale bowled well in the closing overs holding us to 142 off our 20 overs.
Young gun Tom Rogers got Uni off to the ideal start with a direct hit run out in the opening over, and with wickets to Reid and Stafford the Roos quickly slumped to 4/33. As usual, the opposition batsmen had trouble scoring off Fawad, while James Bett cashed in with clever bowling at the other end picking up 3 wickets.
The Uni boys were outstanding in the field all day with Tom Rogers taking 3 catches, skipper McNeil picking up a run out and the day topped off with a sensational diving catch from Yousaf Iqbal running in from long on. Greenvale finished on 9/116cc with the win keeping MUCC in touch with the top 8.

Second XI: MUCC 6/139cc (Emms 58) defeated Greenvale Kangaroos 5/110cc (McLaughlan 3/17)
Out at Greenvale, with regular skipper Mark Simpson out nursing his groin, Harrison Emms took on the captaincy duties and immediately set the tone for the match by making an impressive 58 off just 36 balls at the top of the order. Handy contributions from Clements & Wrigglesworth saw us post a challenging target of 140.
Spin put the breaks on after Greenvale got off to a bright start. McLaughlan continued his fine form with another 3 wickets and Ben Rolfs picking up 1 and nailing another direct hit run out. The win puts MUCC in the hunt for a white ball final position against St Kilda.

The Kangaroos were never in the hunt, with wickets falling regularly to our seamers, Boyle (2), Coxon (2) & Browning (3), and eventually seeing them finish on 9/111. The 3s continue to get the job done and are pushing to break into the top four before Christmas.

Captain Laban Ditchburn lead from the front with 4/11 off his 4 overs, not including his stunning diving catch at short cover. In a dominant display the 4s dismissed the Kangas for a mere 70 in the 17th over.
Borgas, coming back from a thumb injury, led the way with 31 as the 4th XI achieved the target 3 wickets down and 30 balls to spare to continue their climb back up the ladder.
