Third XI: MUCC 5/147cc (Emms 74 McKenna 30) defeated Carl 105 all out (McKenna 4/18)

Excited to get a chance to play on University Main Oval, the Third XI had a nervous wait in the morning to see if the ground was going to be suitable for play after a torrential down pour the previous afternoon. It was eventually decided that we would get a full game in and the toss was won by MUCC with the captain – Tom Polkinghorne – electing to bat first. At the top of the order, Harrison Emms (74) was clearly a class above as he smashed the ball to all parts of the ground, manipulating the field at will. He was extremely well supported by Fergus McKenna (30) who was busily rotating the strike. The pair worked exceptionally well together to put on a 100-run opening stand, getting MUCC off to an absolute flyer. Ben Roughsedge and Will Morrison consolidated the good early work at the back end of the innings with contributions of 15 and 13 respectively. The side reached a good score of 5/147 from their 20 overs.

Carlton were able to get away to a solid start, with their top order getting a lot of balls down to third man. However, they were unable to find the boundary often enough and the pressure began to mount when Ben Roughsedge really tightened the screws with a pivotal spell of 3/25 from his 4 overs. Roughsedge was also the cause for a brilliant run out which saw MUCC really take the upper hand in the match. Carlton were never able to get going again and began to play reckless shots. Another clinical display of medium pace bowling from Fergus McKenna (4/18) saw him close out the innings with style and finish with 8 wickets from the 2 matches over the weekend. Carlton were only able to manage 105 before the loss of their 10 wickets.
