It was mostly business – but some pleasure on Wednesday night – as MUCC President, Nic Brian called the Annual General Meeting for 2024.
A chance for all financial and Life Members of the club to reflect on season 23/24, Nic provided an update on the club’s financial position, an insight to the Annual Report, as well as formally inducting MUCC’s two newest Life Members.
Always a highlight, Life Membership of the club is now awarded at presentation night, but is passed formally at the AGM. On Wednesday, both Cath Grant and James Bett were inducted.
Cath, who was nominated by Life Member and club icon, Sharon “Sticky” Baynes, was able to receive her Life Membership certificate alongside her brother, Chris. A special moment for the club and for the Grant family, it broke new ground for the club, too.
“History was made, at the AGM,” Nic Brian said. “With Cath and Chris, we now have the first brother and sister pair to be Life Members.
“MUCC is very lucky to have the Grant family involvement in our wonderful club.”
Elsewhere, Mark Stafford formally nominated his great mate and finger-spinning all-rounder, James Bett for Life Membership. A motion that was warmly received, Bett, who retired at the conclusion of last season, finishes his time as a Student a Premiership player, First XI bowling award winner, and now Life Member.
Although the President went slightly over the world record pace of 11 minutes for the AGM, he was pleased to wrap things up inside half an hour, keen to grace the Clyde with his presence; resplendent – as ever – in his MUCC blazer.
