In the best round of cricket for the season for coaches and supporters, MUCC will take on Carlton in round 2 this weekend, with all four matches taking place in the University/ Princes Park precinct. Meanwhile, two young MUCCers reach milestones.
In the First XI, MUCC favourites Fawad Ahmed and Mark Stafford are set to play their first matches for the season, bolstering an already exceptional line up. Following a nail-biting victory in round one in which Steven Reid collected his 4th 5-wicket-haul in Premier cricket (5/37), the boys will be looking to repeat the dose this weekend, with the added firepower of the best leg spinner in the country and one of the finest swing bowlers in the competition. Be sure to get to the Uni Main to see the First XI in action at home for the first time in season 2019/20.
1st XI – McNeil (c), Ahmed, Borgas, Gregory, Martignago, McKenna, Reid, Rolfs, Scammell, Stafford, Yaksender.
The Second XI will also be keen to continue their winning form. Following personal best MUCC performances last week from Max Hatzoglou (90*) and Noah Croes (81*), the team welcomes Akon Mawien and James Bett for round 2. After his well compiled innings last week, Croes is playing his 50th Premier cricket match this weekend (pictured above), a fine achievement and one of which we are all extremely proud. If you’re feeling peckish during your Saturday afternoon of cricket watching, the 2nd XI could be the team to follow, with hot roast chicken rolls on offer at the lunch break at Princes Park!
2nd XI – Simpson (c), Bett, Croes, Dooley, Emms, Haseeb, M Hatzoglou, P Hatzoglou, Mawien, Roughsedge, Young.
Following a disappointing loss in round 1, the Third XI will be keen to redeem themselves and get their premiership defence on track. Welcoming back co-captain, Tom Savill, the Third XI will be at Princes Park #3 for their first game at home for the season. Round 2 also sees club favourite, Jayden Zanoni play his 50th match for MUCC (pictured above). The club would like to congratulate Zones and wish him all the best this week and moving forward!
3rd XI – Savill (c), Durrant, Hatton, Horn, Hutton, Iqbal, Kennedy, Kooran, Melican, Ritchie, Stevenson, Zanoni.
The Fourth XI will also be looking for their first win of the season on Saturday. With an exceptionally strong side this week, captain Laban Ditchburn and his team will go into the match with every chance of claiming the four points. Hugo Bienvenu (62) and Hayden Lim (47) were the standouts last week, and will no doubt be keen to improve on their solid starts.
4th XI – Ditchburn (c), Bienvenu, Epstein, Gall, Kleanthous, Lim, Panjwani, Patel, Rao, Stockley, Stone, Van Der Merwe.
