MUCC Business Breakfast 2018

Once again hosted by Ron Steiner, the annual Melbourne University Cricket Club Business Breakfast was held at the RACV Club on Friday morning.

Always a fantastic opportunity to embrace the culture and life of the cricket club, the Breakfast allows sponsors, supporters and players alike, the opportunity to enjoy a superb morning of food, laughter, and of course the stories and insights from a host of guest speakers. The first half of the 2018 Breakfast saw Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland and Manger of High Performance Pat Howard chat with Ron about their respective roles and views on the direction of cricket in the current era. They highlighted the importance of the junior pathway, Sutherland articulating his role in this process, as the “specialist mid-off fieldsman” for the East Malvern-Toornonga 5th XI.

After guests enjoyed this discussion over a selection of fruit and pastries, it was time for bacon and eggs, and the special guest, Mark Waugh. Ron quizzed him on his experiences at the top level, and the transition into his role as a national selector. The crowd warmly received Mark’s relaxed manner, as he recounted tales of infamous reverse sweeps, and experiences with Brad Hogg in the subcontinent.

The morning concluded with Waugh drawing the raffle winners, who were only to keen to grab a photo opportunity, as club president, Derek Bennet gave a final wrap up to yet another successful Breakfast.

The Club would like to thank the RACV Club, as well as all of its sponsors and guests for making the morning possible, and we look forward to seeing everyone there in 2019.
