‘Daddy Cool’ Earns Selection in Team of the Year

Melbourne University Cricket Club All-rounder, Alex Gregory has capped off a stellar season with selection in the 2019/20 Victorian Premier Cricket Team of the Season.

In just his second year at the Club, Gregory stamped his authority on the competition; his exploits with both bat and ball helping Uni to the minor premiership in the First XI. In a season that saw the twenty-four-year-old blossom, Gregory blasted 635 runs and claimed 23 wickets in the first grade.

Bringing an unwavering sense of composure to the number three position which he made his own, Gregory compiled four fifties for the year, as well as his maiden MUCC century in round eight against St. Kilda. His ability to balance patience with enviable power makes him an incredibly versatile batsman and one who succeeded against both the white and the red ball, finishing the year with an incredible season average of 52.92.

With the ball, Gregory has become Mr Reliable for the Students. Bowling with exceptional control and coming from an awkward height, he utilised these tools to great effect in season 19/20. Developing the famous “Gregory concerto”- hitting each string of the seam before dismissing the batsman, his ability to set up and execute plans with the ball is second to none; highlighted by his miserly average of 19.09.

Beyond his exemplary skills and statistics that earned him selection in the Team of the Year as well as a maiden Victorian Second XI cap, it is Gregory’s passion and determination to get the most out of himself and his teammates that makes him such an asset to MUCC. Held in the highest possible esteem within the Club, we cannot wait to see what he achieves next year and into the future.

Congratulations once again, Alex!
